RKT specializes in microfluidic products which utilize extremely precise channels to guide small liquid volumes. This technology is used on “lab-on-a-chip” devices, compact and versatile applications for point-of-care testing (POCT). Proper diagnostic function requires exceptional product precision to ensure proper reaction processes of the sample material for PCR or other tests. RKT is skilled in providing the tooling and molding processes of the intricate and precise, sometimes microscopic, channels, and is also exceptional in being able to provide the associated liquid handling.

Handling of Very Small Liquid Volumes

Handling small quantities of biochemical liquids in plastic cartridges, especially for diagnostic applications, presents significant challenges. Typically, these volumes are just a few microliters, with a tolerance of only plus or minus 10%. Incorrect dosing can lead to fluidic malfunction, which is why RKT uses robotic systems for microspotting, ensuring precise pipetting with accurate positioning and repeatability.

After filling, cartridges are dried in ovens to stabilize the solutions in order to prepare them for reactions with sample materials.

RKT also accurately positions stick packs containing buffer solutions within diagnostic disks using UV adhesive. This process is also fully automated to ensure consistent and reliable assembly.
