Complex tool design and construction are among the most challenging yet crucial aspects of plastic injection molding — and they are our specialty. Unlike suppliers who outsource the development and manufacture of specialized molds and tools, we handle all aspects internally, from design through to production.

The success of full-scale plastic injection molding hinges on the design and quality of the injection tool. A crucial initial step is deciding on the proper number of cavities. While single cavity tools are less expensive, higher cavitation can quickly pay off for high-volume projects. RKT specializes in both simple single cavity and complex high-cavity molds. Before tool construction, critical details such as hot runners, injection points, venting, and ejectors are confirmed through computer simulated mold flow analysis.

Proven and Innovative Manufacturing Processes

In our mold and tool manufacturing, we blend traditional metalworking with cutting-edge techniques such as lasers and LIGA. This enables us to create intricate tools tailored for even the smallest components, particularly for micro injection molding. 2K and 3K injection molding tools require special considerations in that the tool is typically rotated in process during the injection cycle.

Our toolmaking department produces both individual components and assemblies for our core market of medical technology, and has historically produced molds for other industries such as automotive and electronics.

Designed for stable production and extended durability, our tools undergo meticulous planning to ensure longevity and consistent performance. We offer preventive maintenance plans to maximize tool lifespan, minimize defects, and manage costs effectively.

Validation

We validate your tools to you and our specifications. Standard validation includes compliance with ISO 13485 design qualification [DQ], installation qualification [IQ], operational qualification [OQ], and performance qualification [PQ]). We also offer validation according to PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and other standards as needed. We also are fully capable of providing services such as design of experiments (DoE), step-by-step optimization of injection molding processes (Pro-Op), mold flow analysis, and optional CT scans and polariscope analyses.
